Multimedia Map Description

How to get

Located in Kalamaria, just 7 km from the center of Thessaloniki, Marina Aretsou is a peaceful harbor for private boats and yachts. The marina is well-protected from harsh weather and provides essential amenities such as water, electricity, internet, and security. It accommodates vessels from 5 to 30 meters and is open year-round. While the area designated for private yachts is well-maintained, the commercial section could benefit from improvements. Additionally, better lighting is needed after dark. Kalamaria's marina frequently hosts sailing activities.

Landscape and activities

The Kalamaria coastline extends with piers, sandy cliffs, and wild beaches. While these areas are not meant for swimming, they provide a setting for outdoor activities and social gatherings. This location even drew the attention of the Greek royal family in the 20th century, leading to their use of Palataki as a royal residence. While currently lacking a formal function, the property remains guarded, and its grounds are occasionally used for cultural events, with the striking architecture and seafront location serving as a backdrop.

The area also includes parks and green spaces where residents engage in jogging or family walks. Sports and recreation options abound, with two nautical clubs, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, and gyms. The local theater provides cultural events, while nearby shopping centers, including Mediterranean Cosmos, offer retail options. Nearby, tavernas, ouzo bars, and cafes provide various dining options.

Dining and coastal attractions

Kalamaria features a diverse selection of dining options, particularly along Sofouli Street, where visitors can find elegant restaurants offering high-quality cuisine. For those looking to dine by the sea, Miami, located right by the marina, offers a romantic atmosphere with fresh seafood dishes like langoustine tartare, lobster ceviche, and seafood pasta.

Further along, Remvi Restaurant is known for its elegant ambiance and specialties such as mussels in sauce, oysters, and shrimp spaghetti. The area also features Saint Neomartyr Georgios from Krini Chapel, often used for weddings, with views of moored boats in the marina.

For family-friendly outings, Mavri Thalassa offers a playground nearby. West of the marina, Bloom Venue serves as a popular event space for weddings and baptisms, offering quality service and sea views.

Accessibility

Kalamaria’s location is highly convenient. Thessaloniki is just a short drive away, while the airport can be reached in approximately 15 minutes. Parking is generally easier here compared to the city center, and it facilitates the use of private or rental vehicles for those who prefer not to rely on public transport.

Public transport options include several bus lines, and a few metro stations are under construction, set to open in 2025. One of these stations, Aretsou, is located in the Nea Aretsou district, where the marina lies. This district was established in the 1920s and initially populated by Greek refugees from the town of Aretsou (modern Darıca) in Turkey.
