Perea Beach is the closest beach area to Thessaloniki, attracting visitors with its soft sandy shores and proximity to urban infrastructure. It’s easy to reach Perea Beach by private car or public transport. From Thessaloniki, bus routes with a transfer are available, or you can take a passenger boat from the White Tower for €10.
Thessaloniki is a major city, better known for its port area and landmarks than for beach vacations. However, Perea Beach is close enough to be a convenient option for a short getaway.
Perea Beach offers a sandy shoreline with a gentle slope into the water, making it a safe spot for families with children. The shallow waters are perfect for teaching kids how to swim. Seaweed and shells can be found along the beach, washed ashore by the waves. After storms, the beach cleanup can take some time, occasionally causing inconvenience. On regular days, however, the water remains warm and clear. A unique feature of the beach is the mild salinity of the water, which is gentle on the skin. The nearby concrete pier serves as a docking point for boats and a spot for diving.
The beach stretches for approximately 3 kilometers and offers a wide variety of restaurants, taverns, cafés, and apartments located along a relatively narrow promenade. Many establishments provide umbrellas and sun loungers, often free of charge with the purchase of food or drinks. For those who prefer a quieter experience, there are free sections of the beach without sunbeds.
One standout spot is Skipper Café Bar, which operates even during the off-season. The bar offers a selection of snacks, cocktails, and comfortable loungers at reasonable prices, known for its cozy atmosphere and excellent service.
The beach is equipped with amenities such as showers, portable toilets, free parking, and a lifeguard station. Additionally, a Lidl supermarket is located about a kilometer inland from the beach.
Perea’s long pedestrian promenade is perfect for year-round walks. The nighttime view is particularly stunning, with the lights of Thessaloniki reflecting on the water. Visitors can enjoy the sound of waves, fresh seafood at local taverns, and traditional drinks like ouzo or wine.
